Charlie Herbert

Charlie Lee Herbert, 79, of Brook Avenue, Suffolk transitioned July 28, 2017 at Kindred Transitional Care Rehabilitation-Nansemond Pointe. He was the son of the late Annie Mary Cross and John Herbert. He was employed Standard Steel in Baltimore Maryland and Newport News Shipyard. At an early age he joined Red Oak Grove AME Zion Church. He leaves to cherish his memories four sisters, Edith Williams and Lizzie Jones both of Norfolk, VA, Mable Howell of Baltimore, MD and Betty Steward of Chesapeake, VA; two brothers, Joseph Herbert of Martinsburg, WV and Melvin Herbert (Bessie) of Baltimore, MD; a very special friend of 55 years, Betty White; one sister-in-law; 10 nieces, 10 nephews and a host of cousins and friends. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Friday, August 4, 2017 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. He will be laid to rest in Cross Family Cemetery.
