James A. Gibbons

Mr. James Authur Gibbons, 70, of 2305 Skeetertown Road, Suffolk, Virginia. Received his heavenly wings, June 16, 2017 at his residence. He was the son of James Davis Gibbons and Lula Lee Gibbons. He is preceded in death by four sisters, Elnora Wiggins, Barbara Gibbons, Darlene Little and Abby Simmons, One brother, Walker Gibbons. He attended school in Suffolk, Virginia, he was retired from Newport News Shipyard after 25 years of dedicated service. James continued to work on a long time goal as a cement finisher. He leaves to cherish his loving memories his God mother, Mrs. Goldie Jordan; loving wife, Cynthia L. Scott-Gibbons; three daughters, Lula Artis (Travis), Chiquita Gibbons and Rachquel Jackson; two sons, Leon Riddick and Travis Riddick; two step daughters, Chiquita Scott and Asheema Scott; one step son, Antony C. Scott; two sisters, Libby Hawk (James) and Paulette Savage (Ronald); brother, Paul Gibbons; God brother, John Brown; elven grandchildren; eight step-grandchildren; two nieces, one nephew; one great niece and a host of loving relatives and friends. A visitation with family will be held 6-7 p.m. Monday, June 26, 2017 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 27, 2017 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel. He will be laid to rest in Gethsemane Baptist Church Cemetery.
