Shirley J. Watford-Wiggins, 59, affectionately known as Shirley Jean by her family was called to heavenly home on April 4, 2017 from her earthly residence in Suffolk, VA.She was born on September 26, 1957 in Suffolk, VA (formerly Nansemond County) to the late Albert (Lil Bud) and Jean Watford. Larry, Shirley, Sharon and Randy (deceased) was reared by their parents on Oak and Halifax Street area and attended Suffolk City public schools graduating from Suffolk High School in 1976.After high school, she joined the United States Army in 1979. She completed basic training in Ft. Leonard Wood, Missouri. She then began Quarter Master school at Fort Lewis, Washington, which became her first permanent duty station. She was later assigned to Seoul, Korea and completed her honorable enlistment in 1985 at Fort Bragg, North Carolina. Upon exiting the military, she began employment at Norshipco and worked as a laborer for several years. In her later years, she was employed at Gwaltney, Smithfield packing Company, until her health failed.Shirley is survived by her husband Milton (Eddie) Wiggins, a devoted brother Larry Watford, a lovingly devoted sister Sharon Watford of Suffolk, four sisters-in-law, Alice Daughtrey (Junie), Joyce Copeland (William), Elmira Allen all of the Suffolk area and Shelia Amos (Michael) of Summerville, South Carolina; one brother-in-law, Steven Riddick of New Haven, Connecticut. Shirley leaves to cherish her memory, two nieces, three nephews, several great nieces and nephews. Shirley's three special cousins, Robin Ashe, Melissa Privott and Durrell Watford. A dedicated friend Byron (Bear) Wilkins and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.A celebration of life will be held 12:00 noon Monday, April 10, 2017 at Antioch United Church. Rev. Ben Fitzgerald will deliver the eulogy. She will be laid to rest in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
