Minister Nathaniel Johnson Sr., 69 of Suffolk, VA passed away peacefully to be with God the Father on Tuesday, February 21, 2017.He was born in Suffolk to the late Zack Ray Johnson and Magelene Smith Johnson on July 16, 1947.
He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School and Lynchburg College. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard as a Nuclear Supervisor after 32 years of service. Minister Johnson served as a Deacon for a number of years and later as a minister. He also served as a part-time jail minister, Boy Scouts of America, licensed barber and a Mason. He also traveled from Hawaii to Italy in his years of service with the Navy Yard.
He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 49 years, Mary F. Johnson; three sons, Nathaniel Johnson Jr. of Maryland, Rev. Dr. Greg Johnson (Stephanie) of Vestal, New York, Marcus Johnson Sr. of Upper Marboro, MD; one daughter, Danyelle Johnson-Saunders (Alvento) of Suffolk, VA; brother, Daniel Johnson (Barbara) of Chesapeake, VA; sister, Sharlene Elliott of Suffolk; eight grandchildren and two great grandchildren; nephews, nieces and cousins and many friends.A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017 at Pleasant Union Baptist Church. Rev.Dr. V.T. Chambers will deliver the eulogy. Entombment will take place in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
