Roy Harvey Johnson

June 2, 1949 — January 9, 2017

               Roy Harvey Johnson was born to the union of the late Joseph T. Johnson Sr. and Viola J. Johnson on June 2, 1949 in Suffolk, Virginia.  On Monday, January 9, 2017 he transitioned peacefully into eternal rest.                 He completed his early education in Suffolk, Virginia, and then on October 11, 1968 he joined the United States Marine Corp.  During his tenure Roy served in the Vietnam War where held the position of Machine Gunner.  He was awarded the Purple Heart Medal, Combat Action Ribbon, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service, and Vietnamese Campaign Medal.  After serving in military his time Roy moved to California where he resided for several years.  When he returned to Virginia he worked in the automotive industry for many years as a salesman and sales manager.                 Roy was the 5th of 12 children; He was preceded in death by his oldest sibling, Vernelia E. Everett and leaves to cherish his memory and celebrate his home going with four sisters and six brothers: Lillian Wright, of Chesapeake, Virginia; Alice O. Johnson, of Suffolk, Virginia; Joseph T. Johnson, Jr. (Joyce), of Portsmouth, Virginia; Roland T. Johnson, of Virginia Beach, Virginia; Alvin Johnson (Shelia), of Baltimore, Maryland; Charles E. Johnson (Paulette), of Suffolk, Virginia; Reginald Johnson (Denise), of  Oxon Hill, Maryland; Felando Johnson (Debbie), of Accokeek, Maryland; Maureen Johnson, of Virginia Beach, Virginia and Maxine Collins, of Virginia Beach, Virginia A trusted and well loved Uncle Charlie E. Johnson, of Portsmouth, Virginia.  He also leaves behind 32 nieces and nephews, and other great aunts, uncles, cousins, great nieces and nephews as well as his church family of First Baptist of South Hill, friends, and co-workers. Roy was full of life and lived every moment to the fullest.  He was a loving and caring Brother, Uncle, Friend, and Co-worker. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.  We love Roy and pray we will see him again one day.                A wake will be held at Crocker Funeral Home 900 East Washington Street, Suffolk, Virginia on January 16, 2017 from 6:00PM-7:00PM.  Roy’s home going service will be held at First Baptist of South Hill 3633 Galberry Road, Chesapeake, VA 23323 on January 17, 2017, at 11:00AM.
