Josephine Sparger Daughtrey

Josephine S. Daughtrey, 83, of Newport News, Virginia was born November 27, 1933 in Cypress Chapel, Virginia passed peacefully into her father's arm in the early morning of December 27, 2016. "Pig" was the daughter of the late Lloyd and Rosa Steverson. She was predeceased by her brothers, James, Lloyd Jr, and Charlie Steverson, two sisters, Dorothy Freeman and Alice Skeeter.Josephine was a graduate of East Suffolk High School. She attended P.D. Pruden Vocational-Technical Center and attained a Nurse's Aide Certification. She was employed with Louis Obici Memorial. She was a member of Balm of Gilead Missionary Baptist Church where she was a member of the Hospitality Committee, Pastor's Aide Committee and Door Keeper.She leaves to cherish her memory, her husband, Isaiah Daughtry, chidlren, Tonga Horne (Lester), Paula Collins, Marilyn Pittman (Arrington), Yvonne Goodman, Shantena Mardini (Charles)( and Margie Greenhow; one son, Tony Wheeler; sister, Rosa Smith; two brothers, John Steverson (Annie) and Lewis Steverson (Mary); 14 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild; several nieces and nephews and special caregiver Kawan Young.A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 31, 2016 at Mt. Ararat United Church of Christ. She will be laid to rest in Balm of Gilead Missionary Baptist Church Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
