Catherine V. Peden

Catherine Virginia Peden, affectionately known to her family and friends as “Cat”, was born on July 28, 1940 in Southampton County to the late James Thomas Peden, Sr. and Nettie Virginia Wells Peden.  She was called to rest at age 76 on Sunday, October 23, 2016 at Nansemond Pointe Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Suffolk Virginia.  Catherine was loved and supported by her family and countless friends during her last days. Catherine received her education in Southampton County Schools and graduated from Hayden High School, in Franklin, VA in June 1960.  After graduating from high school she moved to Long Island, New York and began her lengthy career in health care.  Additionally, Catherine spent time in Baltimore, Maryland before returning home to Ivor where she continued her profession as a personal health care provider for over 2 decades until her retirement in the mid-2000’s. She was a life-long and devoted member of New Branch Baptist Church in Ivor, VA.  Catherine was baptized at an early age and attended Sunday school and worship services alongside her siblings.  Catherine rededicated her life to Christ and served the congregation faithfully as an usher until her health prevented her from doing so.  She enjoyed cooking, working in her yard, and spending time in Texas with her “Texas Family” as well as sharing a meal with Rev. Frank Aikens, Sr. and his beautiful wife Lavern as well as Rev. Arthur Hudgins and his lovely wife Juanita. Catherine leaves behind to cherish her lasting and loving memories children, daughter, Theresa Elaine Peden, son, Terrance Eugene Peden both of Ivor, VA and son, Terry Gregory Peden (Tammy) of Katy, TX; five adoring grandchildren LeKedria (Coco), Terry Jr. (Lil Terry), Reginald (R.J.), Tameron (Tam Tam) and Tray’von; her sisters Ruth Holloway and Janey Harper of Baltimore, MD and Laverne Barnes of Ft. Washington, MD; god-daughter Zaire (Zay Zay) of Wakefield, VA, special nieces Krystal Gardner of Baltimore, MD and Charmeka (Mikey) Jacobs of Newport News, VA, devoted cousin Jeanette Binns and a host of family and friends. Catherine is predeceased by her brothers John Henry, James Thomas (Buck), Winston and sisters JoAnn, Margaret, Harriet, Florence and Diane.A celebration of life will be held noon Saturday, October 29, 2016 at New Branch Baptist Church, Ivor.
