Delano Woodard affectionately known as "Russell Lee" of Crumpler Road, Wakefield, Virginia transitioned from labor to reward on Tuesday, October 11, 2016. Russell Lee was a native of Southampton County. He was born March 30, 1937, the youngest son of Nathaniel Woodard and Emma Scott Woodard. Russell Lee faithfullly served as a trustee and church clerk of the New Branch Baptist Church.He was a graduate of Hayden High School (Class of 1954), a US Army Veteran, and Paul D. Camp Community College graduate. After spending 38 years at the Newport news Shipbuilding and Dry Dock Company, he retired in 2000. He continued to contribute to his community working briefly for Southampton County Public Schools and Southampton County Waste Management.Russell Lee was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and friend to those who knew him well. he was preceded in death by his parents, four sisters, Roberta Holloway, Vergie Mae Harris, Thelma L. Johnson, and Inell Holloman; four brothers, Lewis H. Woodard, Sr., Herbert Woodard, Sr., Robert F. Woodard, and Thomas Woodard.He is survived by his loving wife, Florence "Boogie" Woodard; two daughters, Celeste Monique Parker (Ronnie) of Christiansburg, Virginia and Shatima Taylor (Cliffton) of Chester, Virginia; two grandchildren, Christian Parker and Gavin Taylor; sisters-in-law, Patricia Woodard of Riveria Beach, Florida and Gertrude Gwaltney of Wakefield, Virginia; brothers-in-law, Stanley Jones, Sr. (Rev. Elizabeth) of Wakefield,  Virginia and Clarence H. Jones of Franklin, Virginia; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.A celebration of life will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, October 21, 2016 at New Branch Baptist Church, 8140 Proctor's Bridge Road with Rev. Frank L. Aikens, Sr. officiating. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
