Jacqueline Majette Carson

Jacqueline “Jackie” Majette was born to Magnolia Long Majette and Venton Bequin Majette on April 7, 1934. She was the first born of two children (Theodore Majette – deceased). Jackie graduated Valedictorian of Hayden High School (Franklin, Virginia) before attending Howard University's School of Pharmacy in Washington, D.C., where she also graduated with honors. She subsequently became a licensed pharmacist on November 14, 1956.Her life's journey took her to Suffolk, Virginia to work as a staffPharmacist at Suffolk Professional Pharmacy. She met and married John Davis Carson and instantly became a loving mother to Wanda Delores Carson (Bouknight) and Dwight Keith Carson. She gave birth to two daughters: Karen DeAnne Carson (Davis-Williams) and Johnna Alison Carson (married to William Edwin Harrell). She also was a loving "mother" to her canine pets (Lady Bug Carson, Sir Del Louie Rollins, and Petey Rollins). Her hard work and tenacity catapulted her to ultimately become the Head of the Virginia Board of Pharmacy (the first African-American woman to hold this position) while working as Chief Pharmacist (later, Director of Pharmacy) at Louise Obici Memorial Hospital. After retiring, she worked in the free clinic to continue her love and care for others. Jackie was known by her colleagues for her continued willingness to try innovative procedures in order to make patients safe.All along the way she gathered friends and admirers. Everyone that met her knew of her kindness and love as she helped many. To have known her was to love her. She departed this life on September 5, 2016 leaving behind four children, five grandchildren: A'Karon Lee Davis - married to Shana Brown Davis (Karen), Charity Majette Harrell (Johnna), Alextra Danielle Exton (Johnna), Wynston Nathanael Bouknight I (Wanda), Shayla Marie Carson-Redding (Dwight), Illea Janelle Carson (Dwight). She is also survived by three great-grandchildren: Alexis Camille Hayward, Kayla Janeen Davis, Summer Jacqueline Davis (A'Karon) as well as numerous family members and friends.We, as a family,have a wondrous legacy to uphold. We thank God for the life and love of Jacqueline Majette Carson.A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc officiated by the Reverend Father Joseph A. Green retired Priest of the Episcopal Church. She will be laid to rest in Southview Cemetery, Franklin.
