Gerald Edward Benton,62, of Pennwood Drive, Hampton, VA transitioned on Wednesday, August 31, 2016 at Naval Medical Center Portsmouth. He was a native of Suffolk and the son of Gladys Gatling Benton and the late Wallace Benton, Sr. He was preceded in death by his wife Debra G. Benton. And sister, Yvonne Nelson.
He retired as a Welder from Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 4o years of service. He was a member of High Dimensions Christian Center. Gerald served four years in the United States Army and was honorably discharged.
He leaves to cherish his memories his daughter, Ebony M. Benton of Lorton, VA; two sons, David Benton (Valen) and Michael Benton both of Newport News, VA; eight sisters, Geraldine Barret of Denton, TX, Emma Burrell (Columbus) of Richmond, VA, Diane Whitfield (Aubrey) of Portsmouth, VA, Deborah Edmonds (Ronald) of Chesapeake, VA, Gladys Benton (Derbin) of Mays Landing, NJ, Ophielia Benton of Atlantic City, NJ, Nakita Benton of Pleasantville, NJ and Latricia Benton of Suffolk, VA; four brothers, Tony Benton (Christine) of Sommerville, NJ, Emmanuel Benton (Francine) of Allentown, PA, Wallace Benton (Trusina) of Suffolk, VA and Kenneth Wayne Benton (Janice) of Portsmouth, VA; three granddaughters, Paris Proctor, Destiny Benton and Victoria Benton; a host of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A celebration of life will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, September 10, 2016 in the Melvin J. Blowe Memorial Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
