Vernice Brown

 Mrs. Vernice W. Brown,87, entered into eternal rest on Monday, July 11, 2016 at Autumn Care Nursing Home, in Suffolk. She was born on July 20, 1928 to the late Saint Paul Wellons, Sr. and Julia H. Wellons. Besides her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, Richard H. Brown; two daughters, Martha K. Brown and Ruth Peoples; seven sisters, Odell Mcclenney, Naomi Wellons, Irene Wellons, Revella White, Ruth Lane, Lucy Gethers and Josephine Powell; two brothers, Paul Wellons, Jr and Louis M. Wellons. Vernice was a graduate of Hayden High School and retired from Smithfiled Packing Company after 25 years of faithful and dedicated service. She was a member of Gilfield Baptist Church where she served on the Ushers Board, Share Program and Decorating Committee. Vernice leaves to treasure her memory four daughters, June C. Chamberliss (Melvin) of Windsor, Va, Patricia Vaughan (Wendell) of Portsmouth, VA, Joyce B. Holland (Clyde) of Suffolk, Va and Doris Turner (James) of Ivor, VA; two sons, Richard J. Brown (Linda) of Wakefield, VA and Beverly H. Brown of Franklin, VA; 17 grandchildren, 34 great grandchildren; 5 great-great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and caregiver Reda Hillard.  A celebration of life will be held 3:00 p.m. Sunday, July 17, 2016 at Gilfield Baptist Church.
