Born Vergie Lee Harvey, November 17, 1914 to Plummer and Pattie Harvey. She grew up in Buckhorn, Virginia now called Suffolk, Virginia as an extension of the city of Suffolk. She attended a small school named Millroad Elementary, renamed later Gresham Graded where she completed the seventh grade.Vergie attended church and Sunday School at an early age and participated actively in vacation bible school. She accepted Christ and was baptized while attending Piney Grove Baptist Church. She continued to be very active in church work. She married Henry J. Hollimon in 1932 and started her family: (2) sons Henry Jr (deceased), Lilton Hollimon of Suffolk, VA, two daughters; Jane Hollimon-Curley of Washington, D.C./ Joyce Hollimon of Maryland and one adopted daughter in Christ: Margaret Hill of Chesapeake, VA. Her family has now grown to five grandchildren: LaTraril Knight of Suffolk, VA., Michelle Hollimon of Suffolk, VA., Darryl Curley of Dumfries, VA., Steven Hollimon of Lanham, MD., Trellis Harris of Colonial Heights, VA., and one adopted granddaughter: Madeline Crawford (deceased). Mrs. Hollimon also has six great-grandchildren, seven great-great-grandchildren, and three great-great-great-grandchildren.Mrs. Hollimon vigorously continued her church work totaling 53 years. She served as church secretary for 43 years, served in the church choir, organized and was president of the Deaconess Board, and was appointed as delegate to attend the Bethany Baptist Church Convention. In 1999, she retired from active church work, but maintained a strong supportive force. In 2000 Mrs. Hollimon united with the newly organized Cornerstone Missionary Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. A.E. Wiggins, Pastor. There she was appointed Mother of the Church.But in the late 2003, her desire was to return to her Christian Foundation at Piney Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Larry Parker, Pastor and regained her leadership role as Mother of the Church.A celebration of life will be held Monday, July 11, 2016 at 12:00 noon at Piney Grove Baptist Church, 4901 Deer Path Road, Suffolk, Virginia To order memorial trees or send flowers to the family in memory of Vergie H.
