Jerry Godwin

Jerry L. Godwin,57, of Suffolk, Va, passed away June 19, 2016 at his residence in Hampton, Va. He was born January 8, 1959 in Suffolk, Va to Ellen Godwin Holloman, raised and lovingly cared for by Ellis L. and Rosa L. Godwin.Jerry married Kim R. (Gray) Godwin in Suffolk, Va on December 31, 1981, three beautiful children came from their union. Shaquanna T. Godwin, Shawnese R. Godwin and Jerrod M. Godwin. From his children he leaves to cherish his memory 10 wonderful and loving grandchildren: Shamar, Shaela, Jamari, Shaniya, Jeriyah, Shakoya, Jayonna, Makala, Micah and Jaleah.He was a graduate of John Yates High School, where he was an extraordinary basketball player. Talented ASE certified Auto Tech. He also attended Commerical Truck Drivers Academy where he excelled and obtained his permit to operate all types of commercial vehicles. He has held motor Vehicle Operator positions with many companies, however it was his desire and aspiration to won his own tractor and trailer and be self-employed and he did accomplish this by starting J. Godwin Express Trucking.Jerry loved to be with family and friends, just to be together and to entertain. Family and friends were definitely very important to him. He absolutely loved the Eagles football team, playing spades and having cookouts just to have people come together. His selflessness was shared with everyone who was lucky enough to have been in his life.Jerry is survived by his ex-wife Kim Godwin; two daughters, son; 10 grandchildren; three brothers; five sisters and a host of many nieces, nephews, cousins and other family members and friends.A celebration of life will be held 12:00 noon friday, July 8, 2016 in the Melvin J. Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Pastor Sylvia Edwards will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Christian Home Cemetery.
