Alfred Lee Davis, Sr.

February 17, 1938 — May 16, 2016

Alfred Lee Davis, Sr. affectionately known as ”Central Hill Roller Coaster”, 78, of 17123 Mount Olive Avenue Windsor, VA went home to be with the Lord on the morning of May 16, 2016 at his home with his wife Gwen by his side after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He was born February 17, 1938 to the late Zack and Dorothy Hill Davis in Baltimore, MD.  He received his education in the Baltimore County (MD) and Isle of Wight County (VA) School Systems and received his high school diploma while he was enlisted in the U. S. Air Force, where he served his country for eight years. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force, where he worked as an aircraft mechanic, he returned home and worked. He gained employment at Farmers Service of Smithfield, VA where he worked as a cement finisher and truck driver for fifteen years. He left Farmers Service to become a long distance truck driver for Smithfield Packing Company (now Smithfield Foods) where he gave thirty years of devoted service, before retiring in 2008. He was baptized as a member of Mount Sinai Baptist Church of Ivor, VA at an early age and had rejoined the church in his later years and became a devoted and trusted member.  He had served on the Trustee Board of the church since July 28, 2008 and was ordained as a Deacon on September 28, 2014. His parents, his brother William C. Davis and his sister Inell Wagstaff, precede him in death. He leaves to cherish fond memories, his dear and faithful wife of 55 years, Gwen Paige Brown Davis; one daughter: Monica D. Davis; five sons: Alfred L. Davis, Jr. (Sherree), Carl A. Davis (Tina), Tony L. Davis (Lori), Kenneth M. Davis (Shavonda) and Curtis Harris; brother-in-law: James Parker; sister-in-law: Maude Davis; thirteen grandchildren: Brandon Davis, Joshua Davis, Tony Pollard, Shadreia Pace, Quaesha Knight, Eva Davis, Preston Davis, Shabre’ Judkins, Kamari Rivers, Lamonte’ Baldwin, Josiah Davis, Jeremiah Davis, and Eugene Harris; and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and dear friends. The Homegoing Service for Alfred Lee Davis, Sr. will be held at Mt. Sinai Baptist Church, 1416 Racetrack Road, Ivor, VA 23866 on Saturday May 21, 2016 at 11:00 am, with Pastor P.D. Wells giving the Eulogy.  The Interment will on Monday, May 23, 2016 at 11:00 am at the Albert G. Horton Memorial Veterans Cemetery, 5310 Milners Road, Suffolk, VA 23434.  Visitation will take place at Crocker Funeral Home, 900 East Washington Street, Suffolk, VA 23434 on Friday, May 20, 2016 from 4:00 to 8:00 pm, with the family receiving relatives and friends starting at 6:00 pm.
