James Eley

James Eley,85, of Ivor, Virginia transitioned Friday, March 18, 2016 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Surry, Virginia and the son of the late Timothy and Gerdie B. Eley. He was preceded in death by his wife, Susie Mae Eley; brother, Johnnie Eley; sisters, Rochester Evans, Nondie Carrington, Rosa E. Brown, Madeline Nowell and Gladys Drew.He retired from Smithfield Packing Company after 15 years and Union Camp after 35 years. He joined Mt. Sinai Baptist Church at an early age.He leaves to cherish his memory three daughters, Ruby Eley of Hampton, VA, Gloria Eley-Epps (Pleasant) of Smithfield, Va and Thelma Eley-Wright (Steve) of Suffolk; grandchild, Teisha Gilliam of Florida; one godson, Antonio Eley of Suffolk;"The Epps Grandgirls", "Taniisha, Shamara and Shannon; one sister, Cotelia Newby; one brother, Timothy Eley, Jr.; sister-in-law, Josepine Spratley; brother-in-law, Curtis Cary (Edna); son-in-law, Walter J. Gilliam; three devoted nephews, Andrew, Alphonzo and Linwood; a loving devoted caregiver, Mrs. Sadie Mae Davis; Barber, Ronald Davis; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Thursday, March 24, 2016 at Gilfield Baptist Church, Doles Road, Ivor VA.
