Born on April 1, 1923, in Nansemond County, VA, Theodore Wilson Ricks was the third of six children born to the late Herbert Ashley Ricks Sr. and Lucy Ann (Ashe) Ricks that reached maturity. He was preceded in death by two brothers. Herbert Ashley Ricks, Jr. and Dupratt A. Ricks and one sister, Thelma Bernice Ricks Johnson.Wilson peacefully departed this life on Thursday, March 10, 2016 at the Autumn Care of Suffolk. He will be missed by all that knew and loved him. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife Dora Ann Ricks, four step-children, Mary, Ella, Christa, and Dorian Riddick, a mother-in-law, Helen Mae Riddick, a sister, Lineette Holmes (James) of Harrisbug, PA; a brother Herman Ricks (Mary) of Silver Spring, Maryland and a sister-in-law, Anna Mary Ricks and a host of nieces and nephews.Also assisted in rearing two of his sister's children, namely Marvin T. Johnson, Jr. and Bernice E. Johnson Pittman. His niece Altima Doris Ricks (Hampton, Virginia) was a compassionate and lovely niece who visited him in the nursing home, hospital and provided many care packages for him during his stay at the nursing home. Likewise, with Bernice Pittman of Baltimore, Maryland who ensured that he had a telephone so that the family could communicate with him.At an early age he confessed his life to Christ and joined the Gethsemane Baptist Church where he served in various ministries the last of which was the Deacon Board. During the mid-nineteen forties for approximately three years Wilson served in the U.S. Army to include a tour of duty with Patton's 3rd Army. In fact, his squad was headed to the "front line" of the fighting in France on the day that World War II ended in Europe.Wilson was educated in the Public Schools of Nansemond County. After his tour of duty in the army, Wilson completed a veteran's agricultural program at the Nansemond County Training School, now known as Southwestern High School.The family of Theodore Wilson Ricks wishes to express their sincere and deepest appreciation for all the acts of love, concern, and support during our time of bereavement. Blowe Memorial Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Cemetery.
