Allison Garrett Ashe, 72, of Suffolk, VA affectionately known as “Geebie Dog” transitioned peacefully at Kindred Transitional Care and Rehabilitation on February 13, 2016. He was born in Nansemond County on Dec 2, 1943 to the late Audrey Langston Ashe and Thomas Lee Ashe Sr.
Allison attended Nansemond County public school, and was standout track and football player at Southwestern High School graduating in 1963. After high school, Allison worked at Newport News shipyard before moving to New York. He worked at General Motors in Tarrytown, NY before moving to Ft Washington, MD. After working numerous positions with METRO and Washington Gas, he transitioned back to the family residence on Dutch Rd and lived out his last days.
Allison was predeceased by his brothers Thomas, Nathaniel and Thaddeus Ashe, and sister Vandell Arnold. Allison is proudly survived by his son Michael Ashe of Clinton, MD and four grandchildren, Markell Ashe of District Heights, MD, Quamisha Nelson of Jacksonville, NC, Marcuis Ashe District Heights, MD and Monet Ashe of Garner, NC and one great grandchild Tyliah Palmer. He will forever be remembered by four (4) siblings, Evangeline “Evelyn” Bynum and of Suffolk, Dorothy M. “Dot” Brown and Mildred Ashe of Norcross, GA and Marvin (Joyce) Ashe of Portsmouth, VA. A host of nieces, nephews, cousins and other relatives and friends.
Never a person of few words, Allison never met a stranger that he didn’t like and will always hold a sacred place in the hearts of those who were fortunate and blessed to be touched by his life. Always the main attraction of any event, “Geebie” will be missed in the “Holland Community.”
A celebration of life will be held 1:00 p.m. Saturday, February 20, 2016 in the Melvin Blowe Memorial Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
