P. Calvin Reid

P. Calvin Reid, 91,  departed this life on February 11, 2016. He was born on January 18, 1925 to the late Admon and Rebecca Reid. He was also preceded in death by brothers, Jonah Reid, Beverly Skeeter, Roy Reid, Richard Reid and Andrew Reid and sister Debora Ricks.At an early age he accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior and joined Mt. Ararat Christian Church. After high school Calvin was drafted into the United States Army in June 1943 during World War II and he received an Honorable Discharge in December 1945. He  furthered his education at St. Paul's College in Lawrenceville, VA where he earned his Degree in Business Education.Calvin later moved to New York where he studied at New York University and received his Master of Arts Degree in Education which led to his career in teaching in the New York School System where he retired in 1985. He faithfully served as a member o the Episcopal Church of the Crucifixion in New York, New York, for over 50 years.He leaves to cherish his memory: his son Kumar Knight (Melina) of Norfolk, VA; two sisters, Clara A. Reid of Norfolk, VA and Vivian Jubray of Suffolk, VA; one sister-in-law, Disy Reid of Suffolk, VA; one grand-daughter, Kaci Knight along with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A memorial service will be held at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, February ,20, 2016, in the Melvin J. Blowe Memorial Chapel  of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. Rev. Dr. Randy F. Skeeter will deliver the eulogy. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
