Eva Evelyn Hale

June 27, 1925 — January 20, 2016

Eva Evelyn Hale was born on June 27, 1925 to the late Lena and John Henry Williams.  Eva departed this life on January 20, 2016 at Autumn Care Nursing Facility in Raeford, NC.  She accepted Christ at an early age. She was married to the late Matthew Hale for approximately 52 years. They were founding members of Poplar Run Baptist Church where she faithfully served as a deaconess and President of the Usher Board. Eva was willing to do all she could for the Lord. Eva was a gifted, highly sought after beautician; clients traveled for her services and purchased homemade hair products. She loved people and touched countless lives with kindness. Eva also loved animals and provided care to many without a home. Eva and Matthew were passionate fishermen. They enjoyed fishing on the pier and inviting others to their boat. Special guests included Pastor Berline and the late Deacon George Kelly who traveled from North Carolina. In 2005, as her health began to fail, Eva left Suffolk to reside with her son and his wife.  At that time, she joined Lou Chapel Holiness Church in Spring Lake, NC where she attended church faithfully until her health began to decline. Eva loved praising the Lord.  She also loved her Pastor and church family. Eva was predeceased by her parents Lena and John Williams, Matthew Hale (husband) and two grandchildren Ricky and Vanesha Hale. She leaves to cherish many memories:  her loving son Larry (Vanessa) of Fayetteville, NC; two grandchildren Derrick (Jo’el) of Hampton, VA; Dametria of Fayetteville, NC; three great grandchildren, Breanna Hale of Anchorage Alaska, Derrick Hale, Jr. of Hampton, VA; and Destiny Hale of Portsmouth, VA.  Eva leaves a host of friends and relatives. She cherished three special friends, Annie Hutchenson, Nellie Spratley, and Cathy Warner.A celebration of life will be held Noon Saturday, January 30, 2016 at Poplar Run Baptist Church 5330 Bennetts Pasture Road, Suffolk. She will be laid to rest in the church cemetery. Professional services with dignity have been entrusted to Crocker Funeral Home, Inc.
