Ernest M. Stagg, 71, of Pearl Street, transitioned Wednesday, January 6, 2016 at his residence. Ernest is a native of Suffolk and the son of the late Margaret and Charlie Stagg. Ernest was educated in Suffolk, Public Schools. He was employed by the City of Portsmouth and retired in 1985. Mr. Stagg was a member of First Baptist Church on Mahan Street where he was affiliated with numerous auxiliaries such as the Brotherhood Ministry, Male Usher Ministry and Kitchen Staff. Ernest was also a member of the Boosters Club. He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Joyce A. Stagg; daughter, Donna; three sons, Keith, Stephen and Craig; 5 sisters, Eva Ralph, Viola Giles, Shirley Archer, Roma Smallwood and Catherine Mayo; 1 brother, Levon Stagg; 4 grandchildren, Meagan, Keith Jr., Kaylah and Kareem; 1 aunt, Bertha; 3 sisters-in-law, Shirley Freeman, Charlene Coker and Sandra Paul; 3 brothers-in-law, James Mayo, Tommy Ralph and Raymond Giles; a host of cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. A celebration of life will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday, January 11, 2016 at First Baptist Church, 112 Mahan Street. Rev. Dr. Steven Blunt will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Nansemond-Suffolk Cemetery. Condolences to the Staff family may be extended to www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
