Leon N. Patton, Sr.

Leon N. Patton, Sr., 80, of Suffolk, Virginia went to be with the Lord on December 17, 2015 at MedStar Washington Hospital Center, Washington, DC, following a brief illness. Leon was born April 12, 1935, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, to the late Hattie Frazier and Nehemiah Patton.  He was the third oldest of six children.  On April 15, 1960, he married Loretta Ann Hooper, who survives. Leon attended Saint Augustine’s College, Raleigh, North Carolina, graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics. He served in the U.S Army in the 1950’s.  His professional career was with the Suffolk Public Schools. He was a Mathematics teacher, Assistant Principal, and, after 32 years, retired as an Assistant Superintendent in 1991. Mr. Patton was a Lifetime Member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Inc., Alpha Iota Chapter. In addition to his loving wife, he is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, Leon Jr. and Sherry Patton; grandchildren, Leon III, Kyle, and Tori Patton, of Fort Washington, Maryland; sisters, Mae King, Jacqueline Douthit, and Patricia Careathers of Winston-Salem, North Carolina;  brother, Wilbert (Jung) Patton of Tampa, Florida; other relatives and friends. Mr. Patton was preceded in death by his son, Antonio Dewayne and his brother, Edward Patton. A Funeral service will be held at 12:00 noon Monday, December 28, 2015 at East End Baptist Church, Suffolk, Virginia. Interment will take place at Carver Memorial Cemetery.
