William “Bud” Taylor, 96 of 621 Kilby Avenue, Suffolk died Sunday, December 20, 2015 at Nansemond Point Rehabilitation and Healthcare Center. He was a native of Seaboard, NC and the son of James Taylor and Katie Davis Taylor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Frances Taylor; daughter, Shirley T. Johnson.
He was in the U.S. Army Special Chemical Unit. He served in World War I and World War II (Army and Air Force). He retired as a Master Plumber at the Portsmouth/Suffolk Water Department. He also was previously employed with the Norfolk Naval Shipyard and Jet Gas Company. While at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard, he invented a toilet flushing system for submarines. He was the lead vocalist for the Rocking Champs and performed on TV channel 27. He was an Air Force Golden Gloves Champion. Mr. Taylor was a member of Faith Temple Apostolic Church where he was a Deacon, member of the Usher Board, Sunday School teacher and Male Chorus. He was a member of the Masons, Elks, and Shriners.
He leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Frances Hinton (James Sr.) of Montclair, NJ; sons, Frankie Lewis (Barbara Jean) and Anton Weaver both of Suffolk; ten grandchildren, Travis Hinton (Ava), Guy Hinton (Patty), Rhonda Johnson, Jerry Jones, Rona Sykes, Jireh Hinton, James Hinton, Jr., Delicia Whitehead, Tony Brown and Deon Daughtery; eight great grandchildren; brother, Willie Taylor (Gertrude) of Suffolk; devoted friend, Lillian Sykes Madrey; and other friends.A celebration of life will be held noon Tuesday, December 29, 2015 at Faith Temple Apostolic Church. The Rev. Troy Ruffin will deliver the eulogy. He will be laid to rest in Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery.
