Charlie Bowers, Jr.

Charlie Junious Bowers, Jr., 80, transitioned on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at Southside Memorial Regional Medical Center in Petersburg. He is the son of the late Annie Mae Brown Bowers and Charlie Bowers Sr. Charlie was a native of Southampton County and was educated in Isle of Wight Public Schools. He was preceded in death by his wife Bernice Bowers, two sisters, Marie Bowers and Lillian Bowers; one brother, Fenton Lee Bowers. He was an avid farmer and member of Gilfield Baptist Church where he served on the Senior Usher Board. He leaves to cherish his memory two daughters, Alpina Williams and Evelyn Swan; three sons, Jack Earl Swan, Richard Swan and John Marchel Swan; three sisters, Sadie Davis of Ivor, Ruby Rogers (James) of Portsmouth, VA and Bernice Gwaltney of Windsor, VA; two brothers, Curtis Bowers of Portsmouth, VA and Bernard Bowers of Windsor, VA; a host of nieces nephews cousins and friends.A celebration of life will be held 3 p.m. Saturday, November 14, 2015 in the Melvin Blowe Chapel of Crocker Funeral Home.
