Carolyn Marie ArtisCarolyn Marie Artis, 73, of 216 S. Lloyd St., Suffolk, passed away peacefully Tuesday, Feb. 4, 2014, at Chesapeake Nursing and Rehabilitation Healthcare Center, Chesapeake. She was a daughter of the late Arthur and Lucille Evans and was preceded in death by her husband William Artis Sr.; a daughter, Corinthian Lynn Reid; and a brother, Herbert Evans.She was born in Orange, N.J., on Jan. 16, 1941. She was a member of East End Baptist Church of Suffolk for more than 25 years. She was the director at East End Child Development Center for 28 years.Her memories will be cherished by four daughters, Patricia Archer (Custello), Marcia Crocker, both of Suffolk, Angela Williams, of Somerset, Ky., and Lisa Richardson, of Greenville, N.C.; three sons Michael Boone, William Artis Jr. and Walter Jonathan Artis, all of Suffolk; two sisters, Jean Artis, of Chesapeake, and Juanita Parker, of Suffolk; four brothers, William Freeman Sr., Eugene Evans, Richard Evans and Wilbert Evans; 17 grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends.A funeral service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 10, 2014, at East End Baptist Church officiated by Pastor David Wade. Interment will be in Carver Memorial Cemetery. The family will assemble at Crocker Funeral Home at 10 a.m. for the procession to the church on Monday.
