Mayfield G. DickensMayfield George Dickens, 92, of 303 Baker Street, Suffolk, died Saturday, Feb.15, 2014, at Autumn Care of Suffolk. He was a native of Halifax, N.C., and the son of the late Govenor Dickens and Romania Dickens. He was preceded in death by his sister, Selma Patillo; and brother, Thurman Dickens.He served in the U.S. Army and received various awards. He retired from the Norfolk Naval Shipyard after 32 years of service. Mr. Dickens was a member of New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries.He leaves to cherish his memory one daughter, Shirley Virginia Dickens, of Suffolk; one son, William Henry Harrell (Carol), of Ruther Glen; 11 grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren; nephew Thurman Mayfield Patillo(Burnette); niece, Selma Walcott; five great-nephews and two great-nieces; and a host of cousins, other family and friends.A funeral service will be held at noon Friday, Feb 21, 2014, at New Mt. Joy Food For Living Ministries, officiated by Overseer Viola Parker. Interment will be in Albert G. Horton Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery. Crocker Funeral Home is handling arrangements.
