Joseph Sylvester StallingsJoseph Sylvester Stallings, 69 of 410 Big Bethel Road, Hampton, VA died Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at Sentara Careplex in Hampton, Virginia. He was a native of Halifax, North Carolina and the son of the late Clifton Stallings and Dorothy Mae Thorne Stallings. He was preceded in death by one sister, Dorothy Marie Hicks and one brother, Clarence Stallings.He attended Halifax Public Schools. He retired from Newport News Shipyard after 40 years as a foundry worker. He was a part-time employer with the Hampton City Schools.He was survived by one daughter, Lisa Stallings of Florida; three sons, Joseph Butler, Michael A. Butler of Newport News and Steven Sylvester Butler; one sister, Mary Stallings Johnson (Billy) of Suffolk; two brothers, Clifton Stallings, Jr. of Suffolk and Ezekiel Stallings (Nicole) of Portsmouth, VA; thirteen grandchildren and nine great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.A funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Friday, February 28, 2014 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 5500 Marshall Avenue, Newport News, VA officiated by Rev. John Wilson. Interment will be in Pleasant Shade Cemetery in Newport News.
