Karen SkeeterOn Monday July 28, 2014 God called an angel back to glory in that of our beloved Missionary Karen Boone Skeeter.Missionary Karen was born on January 25, 1956 to Deacon Jesse Boone Jr. and the late Deaconess Helen Simms Boone in the city of Portsmouth, Virginia. She matriculated through the Portsmouth Public School system and graduated from Manor High School in 1974. She continued her education at Old Dominion University, where she pledged Delta Sigma Theta Inc. and studied Studio Arts. Later in 2011, at Rising Saint James Pentecostal Church, she received her associate’s degree in Theology. She has worked for the United States Coast Guard in the Finance Center for 26 years until she became ill.She accepted Christ as her Lord and Savior and received the Holy Ghost at a tender age of 24 in the Holy Trinity Churches, Inc. She met, fell in love, and married her husband Pastor Dennis Skeeter of Suffolk, Virginia. Of their 30 year union they were blessed with three beautiful daughters, and four wonderful grandchildren; amongst many other “adopted” children.Karen was a light for Christ everywhere she went, showing the love of Jesus in her walk and talk. She served in many capacities within the Federation of Holy Trinity Churches, Inc., while diligently serving her husband, Pastor Dennis Skeeter. She was a firm believer that the Lord was and is a healer and made it very clear that she got saved so that she could see her Savior someday. She was active in her local community, participating in the civic league, being an avid supporter of the Breast Cancer Foundation, all while fulfilling her missionary duties until God called her to rest. She truly was a vessel of grace withstanding all manner of obstacles that came in her life through faith.She leaves to cherish her memory her devoted husband Pastor Dennis Skeeter of Suffolk, Va; three daughters, Helen S. Friday (Robert) of North Carolina, Victoria A. Skeeter of Suffolk, Va, and Julia S. Kilgore (Nicholas) of Georgia; father, Jesse Boone, Jr. (Gracie) of Portsmouth, Va; seven sisters, Joyce B. Petticolas (Samuel ’Pep’) of Chesterfield, Va, Cynthia B. Williams (Bennie) of Springdale, Md, Sheryl D. Boone of Chesapeake, Va, Vanessa B Johnson (Eugene) and Debbie B Wilkins (Troy) both of Portsmouth, Va, Janet R Boone of Suitland, Md, and Juanita I. Boone of Knightdale, Nc; three brothers, David L. Boone, Sr., (Sherrie) of Carrollton, Va, Jesse Boone III, (Tambara) of Chesapeake, Va, and Carlton K. Boone of Sacramento, Ca; four grandchildren, Ja’Niyah, Kenneth, Kennedi, and Katelyn; a host of nieces, nephews, extended relatives and special friends of many. She was preceded in death by her mother Helen S. Boone and brother, Alan Ray Boone.A funeral service will be held at 12:00 Noon Saturday, August 2, 2014 at Tabernacle Christian Church.
