Charles Thomas NewbyCharles Thomas Newby, 62, of 604 Adams St., Suffolk, died Thursday, Oct. 30, 2014, at Sentara Obici Hospital.On Thursday, October 30, 2014, the Lord called home Charles Thomas Newby. Charles was born April 2, 1952 to the late Floyd Newby and Dorothy Brown in Nansemond County of Suffolk, Virginia.Mr. Newby was preceded in death by his wife, Emmalene Newby; daughters, Diane Gordon and Donna Mayo; and son, Charles Gordon.Charles spent many years working at the Brooklyn Navy Yard in New York where he was medically retired. He moved to Suffolk, Virginia in 1994. He was a member of the Metropolitan Baptist Church. He loved fishing and spending time with his family and friends.Remaining to cherish his memory include his girlfriend, Lynette Holland; two daughters, Dorothy Gordon and Shakivea Campbell of Brooklyn, NY; son-in-law, Tracey Mayo of Newport News, VA; six brothers, Willie Brown, Floyd, John, Don and Floyd Newby of Suffolk, VA and Vinson Newby of Newport News, VA; four sisters. Judy and Margret Newby, Vicky Newby-Howell of Suffolk and Sabrina Norfleet of Georgia; five grandchildren, Derrick Rhodes, Kalani Epps, Shacore Lee, Walter and James Gordon ; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.A funeral will be held at noon, Tuesday, Nov. 4, 2014, at Metropolitan Baptist Church officiated by the Rev.
