Luther Elder

Luther Elder, Jr.Luther Elder Jr. was called home on November 6, 2014 after battling a lengthy illness. Luther was born on April 1, 1937 in Isle of Wight, VA to the late Luther Elder Sr. and Elsie M. Stephens. He worked as a farmer for many years and later became employed with the Virginia Department of Transportation upon his retirement in 1999. Luther accepted Christ as his Lord and Savior at an early age and joined Windsor Grove Baptist Church where he served faithfully for many years and later joined Olive Branch Baptist Church. He was a loving father, grandfather, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He enjoyed fishing, playing the harmonica and taking long walks.Luther leaves to cherish his memory, two daughters, Linda Johnson of Zuni, VA and Paula Manley (Lee) of Franklin, VA; two sons Luther Elder III of Carrsville, VA and Terry Elder of Franklin, VA.; eleven grandchildren, Christelle Johnson, Nelson Johnson, Jr., Dawnelle Johnson, Portia Elder, Cameron Elder, Marcel Elder, Aaron Elder, Xavier Elder, Anthony Elder, Nicholas Elder, Gabriel Elder; four great grandchildren Kayla, Demari, Malcolm, and Josiah Johnson; two sisters Viola Woodson of Ivor, VA and Gracie Spratley of Windsor, VA.; a special friend Ms. Emma Joyner and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A funeral service will be held at 2:00pm, Sunday, November 9, 2014 at Morning Star Baptist Churc 8445 W.
