Viola Lee Scott CowlingViola Lee Scott Cowling, 96, of 5757 Godwin Blvd., Suffolk, died Sunday, Nov. 23, 2014, at Sentara Obici Hospital. She was a native of Nansemond County and the daughter of the late Solomon and Patsy Scott.She was preceded in death by her husband, James C. Cowling; four daughters, Mary Cowling, Celestine White, Delma and Thelma Cowling; two sons, William Cowling and James Henry Cowling; two sisters, Leola Riddick and Hattie Stanton; three brothers, Edward Scott, Arthur Lee Scott and Willie B. Scott.Viola was a homemaker and a member of Diamond Grove Baptist Church.She is survived by two daughters, Evelyn Hill and Goldie Mae Cowling, both of Suffolk; 15 grandchildren, 68 great-grand children, 28 great- great-grandchildren, and six great- great- great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Mattie Rawls of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Wednesday, November 26, 2014 at Diamond Grove Baptist Church by Dr. Calvin Lillard.
