Larry D. Parrish Sr.Larry Donnell Parrish, Sr., 61 of 8400 Pineview Road, Suffolk, VA died Sunday, April 12, 2015 at Sentara Obici Hospital. He was a native of Nansemond County and the son of the late William Allen and Margaret V. Claiborne. He was preceded in death by three sisters, Eloise Harris, Alice Wilson and Jacqueline Claiborne; one brother, Henry Lee Parrish; three brothers-in-law, Alvester Harris, Jerry Lewis and Richard Brock; father-in-law, Curtis Taylor, Sr.He was a graduate of John F. Kennedy High School. Larry was employed for 10 years at the Longshoreman Shipyard, 8 years as a firefighter, an independent trucker, and 10 years at Madaris Transportation where he retired in 2012. He was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist for 7 years under the leadership of Pastor Stephon Johnson. He was a former member of Faith of Deliverance Apostolic Church under the leadership of Bishop Clarence Copeland, Sr. where he served as a deacon and guitar player, and was a part of the Music Ministry.He loved racing cars, fishing from birth, building and rebuilding motors. Larry was an A-1 mechanic. All he had to do was listen and he knew what to do or could tell you what to do to your car. He was a family man and loved his family. Everyone who came in contact with him gained a great piece of his life. He worked day in and dayout to provide for his family. Larry would always say “If I could help somebody along the way, then my living won’t be in vain.” Two of his favorite songs were “I Don’t Feel No Ways Tired” and “My Soul is Anchored in the Lord”.He leaves to cherish his memory his wife, Carolyn Parrish; four daughters, Monique Williams of Syracuse, NY, Shanda Norman, Kimberly Holmes (John), Shineka Bullock all of Suffolk; three sons, Jerrold Gilchrist, Larry Parrish, Jr. (Sha’Ree) both of Suffolk and Michael Washington of Jacksonville, FL; two stepdaughters, Carien Haley of Richmond, VA and Camren Branch of Suffolk; one stepson, Gerald Haley of Suffolk; two sisters, Virginia Lewis and Mary Ann Brock all of Suffolk; four brothers, John Parrish (Louise) of Smithfield, VA, Earl Parrish (Marion Scott) of Suffolk, Willie J. Claiborne (Theresa) of Portsmouth, VA and Raymond Parrish (Gwendolyn) of Suffolk; twenty-one grandchildren and four great grandchildren; mother-in-law, Molley Hairston; sisters-in-law, Charlene Taylor, Clisha Taylor, Mary Parrish; brothers-in-law, Curtis Taylor (Vivian), Clifford Taylor, and Antoine Taylor; godson, James Copeland, Jr.; special friends, James Copeland, Sr. (Leola) of Suffolk, Curtis Taylor of Hampton, VA, Pete Colley of Williamsburg, VA, Durman Skeeter “Skeeter Boys and Family” and “Sam Bo” of Suffolk; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins other relatives and friends.Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
