Terence Leander MasonTerence Leander Mason was born December 30, 1963, the older of two children born to Beatrice Ricks Mason in Suffolk, VA. The family moved to Norfolk Virginia where Terence was educated and graduated from Norview Senior HighSchool in 1983.Beatrice married Woodley Brown Jr., "Pop" as Terence fondly called him; he was the dad that helped him grow into manhood with direction, advice and love.Terence joined the Navy in 1989 and served over seven years as a Damage Controlman where he received several awards and medals. Terence's military service took him to the state of Florida where he was stationed and where he stayed when he ended his military service for a number of years until returning home to Portsmouth VA.While in Florida Terence met and married Cathy Gilmore and from that union they had Terence's greatest joy, a son Isaiah. Terence was a man with a "don't worry everything's going to be alright" attitude. He loved children, he often would do magic tricks, tell stories and play games with them, often being called "Uncle Terry" by the children whose lives he touched. He loved to have gatherings for friends and family, he many times would have cookouts just to get everyone together to have fun. Terence was a proud father; he would show pictures and talk about his son often. Terence was also known by the nick names "Terry" and "Mason", but he was most proud to be called "dad" and "friend".Terence leaves to cherish his memory; his son Isaiah, presently residing in Alaska, his dad Woodley Brown Jr. and sister Trina Janifer-Felton (Robert) of Portsmouth VA, step-brother Antonio Thompson (Adrienne) and step-sister Samantha Richardson (Lewis) of Chesapeake, former spouse and friend Cathy Gilmore and a host of other relatives and friends.Special thanks to Tonya and Mike Jones along with their children Darren, Darrius and Anthony whom Terry lived with and was not just a cousin but a part of their family. Thank you for the care and unselfish love that you gave Terry on a daily basis. Thank you for the many smiles, the joy and the laughter that he had while being there with you. We love you and we appreciate all that you have done. A funeral service will be held at 1:00 p.m. Tuesday, June 2, 2015 in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home. Visitation will be Monday, June 1 from 6 – 7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Condolences may be extended to the family at www.crockerfuneralhome.com.
