Woodrow Wilson HymanWoodrow Wilson Hyman,71, of Portsmouth Blvd died Sunday, July 19, 2015 at Autumn Care of Suffolk. Mr. Woodrow Wilson Hyman was born January 31, 1944 in Nansemond County to the late Henry Harris Hyman and Elizabeth Artis Hyman. Woodrow accepted Christ at an early age, where he became a member of Oak Grove Baptist Church. He was educated in the public schools of Nansemond County and a member of the 1962 graduating class of East Suffolk High School. Woodrow earned an Associate Degree in Electronics from Norfolk State University, Norfolk, Virginia. He served as an Electrician for the Department of Defense in Washington, DC and after many years returned to the Tidewater area and continued his employment with Portsmouth Naval Shipyard until his retirement.Woodrow had a heart of gold and would give you his last. His favorite pastime and places to visit were museums and libraries, for truly he was a historian. He was soft spoken, kind hearted, loving, and had a passion for making people laugh. If you gave him just a minute of your time, he would spend hours conversing with you on subject matter: education, politics, religion, and nature of life. His favorite quote was “Listen very carefully.”Woodrow leaves to cherish his memory two brothers; Carver D. Hyman (JoAnn), Randy A. Hyman (Linda), three sisters; Priscilla H. Benn (Wesley), Phyllis H. Brookins, and Elois H. Wingfield (Maurice), one aunt, Josephine Barnes, one uncle, Philmore Artis; nieces, nephews, cousins and a host of other relatives and friends.A celebration of life will be held 11 a.m. Saturday, July 25, 2015 in the chapel of Crocker Funeral Home, Inc. He will be laid to rest in Carver Memorial Cemetery.
